What motivated you to apply for a scholarship?
Pursuing an MBA has always been a dream of mine. However, the financial burden associated with such a prestigious programme can be daunting. When I learnt about the various scholarships offered by Warwick Business School (WBS), including the Black in Business scholarship, I saw an opportunity to not only ease the financial strain but also to be recognised for my drive for professional excellence and my efforts in promoting diversity and education. This dual motivation drove me to put forth my best application.
What does the scholarship mean to you?
Winning the Black in Business scholarship is more than just financial support; it is a validation of my hard work and dedication to making a difference. This scholarship has enabled me to start my Executive MBA journey without the constant worry of finances. Additionally, it has allowed me to choose international electives with ease, broadening my educational experience. This summer, I will be studying in Milan, Shanghai, and San Francisco, thanks to the generous support from WBS.
Amara Dimude - Executive MBA
I am incredibly grateful for the scholarship I received as a Black woman in business, which marked a transformative moment in my life. It was the first time I had ever been awarded a scholarship, and it couldn’t have come at a more crucial time. I was unemployed and struggling to balance the future financial demands of pursuing an MBA while nurturing my small business. The scholarship wasn’t just financial support—it was a lifeline, a boost in confidence, and a validation that I was on the right path, engaging in ventures I am truly passionate about.
For the longest time, I doubted whether I was good enough to be awarded something like this. I always believed that scholarships were reserved for people who were either gifted or excelling in ways I thought I wasn’t. So, being granted this opportunity didn’t just alleviate financial stress—it reaffirmed my belief in my own capabilities.
The process of securing the scholarship was empowering in itself. For the first time, I confidently articulated my personal and professional brand—a Pan-African feminist with a vision to create multiple businesses that reflect Africa’s creativity, resilience, and self-sufficiency. Being selected for the interview was a milestone, and being able to share my vision during that process felt like a validation of who I am and what I stand for.
This scholarship was more than financial relief—it gave me the belief in my own potential, the confidence to embrace my unique identity, and the strength to pursue my dreams. I look forward to applying everything I’m learning to become the leader my business—and Africa—needs.

What motivated you to apply for the scholarship?
Having spent most of my professional career in very technical roles, I decided to embark on a learning journey to broaden my horizons. In particular, I wanted to understand business from the lens of the C-suite and do so in a truly diverse and international institution, and that began my journey to the prestigious Warwick Business School (WBS).
My MBA is self-sponsored and my reason for applying for a scholarship was financial. As part of my research prior to and during my MBA application, I developed a rough estimate of the total cost and how to fund it, or so I thought. However, before my resumption, the 2023 Nigerian elections came with some political changes that had severe economic consequences, among which was the devaluation of our currency. This led to a significant gap in my funding plans.
Consequently, I had to make a decision on how or if to proceed. I reached out to the WBS admissions team and I was advised to consider the available scholarships and apply. A few weeks later, I received an email from WBS that my application was successful, and I was awarded a Black in Business scholarship, and this was the extra boost I needed to pursue my ambitions.
How have you been Championing Diversity, both in industry and within your MBA?
As someone from a minority group within the MBA, I am committed to speaking up and championing diversity within my network. While researching possible MBA institutions and preparing my application, I recall being put in touch with the previous Black in Business Club president for WBS and how he supportive he was during my application process. The impact of this kind of support lasts forever, and I feel it is my responsibility to pay it forward. I am a member of the current Black in Business executive and committed to supporting our network and championing our cause both within the MBA and in my industry.
How have you been embodying Warwick Business School’s Change Maker values and having an impact on your sector/society during your MBA?
While most of our members are from black ethnic backgrounds, we welcome allies from other backgrounds as we serve to promote our representation and advancement in WBS and business in general. As a current executive member, I strive to live these values and seek to strengthen and increase our network. I believe it is important that black and other minority groups are properly represented at the table such that the benefits of diversity, equality and inclusion can be truly realised in society.

What motivated you to apply for the Black in Business Scholarship?
I had pondered the idea of pursuing an MBA from a top business school for many years, frequently conducting a cost-reward analysis of this endeavour. While I recognise that the potential rewards far outweigh the costs, the financial burden has consistently been a significant reason for my hesitation in moving forward with the application.
When I learnt about the scholarship opportunities at WBS, the possibility of receiving a scholarship and significantly reducing the overall programme cost eliminated my financial hesitation. This realisation gave me the confidence to submit my application and remain hopeful.
Among the available scholarship options, the Black in Business Scholarship stood out to me as more than just financial aid. It represents a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in business leadership, a mission I am passionate about. This is why I chose to apply specifically for this scholarship.
