Top places to socialise at university

24 July 2024

Where can you socialise and meet new people at university? Undergraduate student, Eshaan, shares his top places to visit on campus and in the local area.

Best places to socialise on campusCuriositea, Warwick Campus

The University of Warwick campus provides a range of facilities and student-led activities, so there is something for everyone. You can meet new people with similar interests through societal events, as there are over 300 societies to explore. Furthermore, there are opportunities for creative arts at the Warwick Arts Centre, a place to get active with the sports and wellness hub, and the Piazza is always bustling with food stalls, society activities and other campus events or challenges.

This can seem ‘too much’ at first - however, I highly recommend pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to explore what the campus has to offer. Begin by taking baby steps, like getting to know your flatmates, as they may have common passions or interesting insights, which you would like to discover. Depending on the vibe, you can hang out inside accommodations or visit Pret or Curiositea, as they are my favourite places to socialise on campus.

The best activities in Leamington Spa

Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa

Leamington Spa is a small town located near the Warwick campus, approximately 30 minutes away via a bus ride. Leamington is known for various spots such as the Jephson Garden, the Vue cinema, the nightclubs and the restaurants. Depending on the type of outing you would like, you can choose to have a peaceful walk around the Jephson Garden and the Royal Pump Room Garden, or you could enjoy a hearty meal from a variety of food and drink options in the vicinity ranging from British, Indian, Italian and many more cuisines. Five Rivers in Leamington Spa is my favourite spot for a good meal with my friends.

Many students reside in Leamington Spa, including myself. I have always enjoyed exploring nature and the outdoors during weekends, so it is great to live near a lovely park and gardens! Furthermore, on most Sundays' there is a market that sells artisanal and seasonal products. The Sunday Market, Leamington.

My top 5 attractions in the local area

Bowling alley, Leamington Spa

If I were experiencing my first few weeks at Warwick, I would highly recommend the following:

1.A competitive bowling night with my mates at Tenpin, Leamington
2.Attending a sports taster session at the Sports and Wellness hub on campus
3.A Karaoke night at The Dirty Duck on campus
4.An afternoon walk at Jephson garden, Leamington
5.A movie at Vue cinemas, Leamington.
