WBS Distinguished Lecture Series with Lord Patel of Bradford OBE, Thursday, 15 June

We are pleased to announce that we will host Lord Patel of Bradford for the final Distinguished Lecture in our 2022/2023 Distinguished Lecture Series at the Shard. Lord Patel will speak on "Leading cultural change in organisations: Personal lessons from Yorkshire County Cricket Club".

This in-person lecture starts with bowl food and drinks at 18.30 at The Shard and ends at 8 pm.

The Lord Patel of Bradford OBE was appointed as an independent peer and has been a member of the House of Lords since 2006. A qualified social worker by background, he has focused his career on working with vulnerable groups, e.g., those with poor mental health, substance misuse issues and health inequalities, with a relentless focus on inclusion and tackling inequality. He served on the Home Office’s Advisory Council for the Misuse of Drugs and the Care Quality Commission. He was also Chairman of the Mental Health Act Commission and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as well as Chair of Social Work England, India Business Group and Breaking Barriers Innovation, among other board-level appointments across public and private organisations. His personal passion for the game of cricket and his extensive governance experience saw him being appointed to the England and Wales Cricket Board in 2015.

In November 2021, he was appointed Chair of Yorkshire County Cricket Club following player allegations of racism at the Club. In January 2023, after a high-profile period spearheading broad-ranging changes in the organisation, Lord Patel announced he would be stepping down from this role.
