Key takeaways from my Finance Masters journey
MSc Finance alum Christina shares her highlights of her Masters course at WBS - a year of building invaluable academic knowledge, diverse perspectives, and global experiences.
A natural progression
Having completed my BSc in Management with Finance at Warwick, my unwavering passion for finance naturally led me to embark on further studies in this field. My undergraduate journey at Warwick was characterized by high-quality teaching, a nurturing academic environment, and the vibrant campus life. These factors played a pivotal role in my decision to continue my academic journey here with an MSc, and it was a decision made without hesitation.
The power of knowledge
Choosing the MSc Finance course at WBS turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. It provided me with not only a solid foundation in core finance principles but also an opportunity to delve deeper into specialized areas such as behavioural finance. The teaching approach at WBS is intellectually stimulating. Our professors encourage students to engage in discussions and work through problems independently. While this approach can be challenging, it's a more effective way to develop a profound understanding of finance because it trains us to understand what lies "behind the scenes." In addition to theoretical training, the course also equips us with technical skills, which are indispensable when pursuing a career in finance.
The community highlights
My highlight throughout my journey was illuminated by the remarkable people I met during this course. The diverse group came from various backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. Some of my colleagues transitioned directly from their undergraduate studies, while others brought years of industry experience to the table. These varying perspectives enriched our group discussions, and the common thread among all of us is our ambition and unwavering commitment to our individual goals.
Beyond academics
In addition to the academic rigor, I received extensive support from the dedicated careers team. They organized regular networking events and provided one-on-one coaching sessions for aspects like CV building and interview preparation. The Finance Programme Team added a touch of fun to our academic journey with activities such as a Christmas lunch, Finance Student Ball, and a lively Summer BBQ. These events offered us opportunities to take a break from our studies and connect with our fellow students.
Global experiences
One of the course's standout features is the international study trips available to students, I was lucky to visit the Nova School of Business & Economics in Lisbon*. I had the privilege of attending guest lectures and networking with students from another top European business school. Of course, I also had the opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Lisbon, indulge in Portuguese delicacies, and soak in the summer breeze.
In conclusion, if you're a finance enthusiast and an ambitious go-getter, Warwick Business School offers an incredible journey that awaits you.
