How I spend my free time while studying at WBS

14 April 2025

Studying at the University of Warwick means you’ll have plenty of exciting ways to make the most of your free time beyond the classroom. Throughout my time, I have been able to meet and spend time with people from different walks of life, exploring new cultures through food, music and social events.

Finding great local food spots

During my free time whilst studying I find myself spending it with friends and exploring the area for great spots to eat. As a foodie who loves to cook and try new foods, doing this brings me great amounts of joy. It’s even better when done with friends! Throughout my time at WBS I have found several restaurants in both Coventry and Leamington Spa that are worth a visit and I share these on my Instagram food blog- (@savour.thespoon). I have also found many of these at the weekly food market at the central campus Piazza, where there are vendors selling food from varying cultures. If you haven’t visited it yet, I highly recommend it as a mid-week treat.

Watching movies

The on-campus Warwick Arts Centre has a cinema with frequent showings of a range of movies there are plenty of offers for students too! As a student who loves to watch the newest dramas and movies, this is a great place to spend my spare time whilst studying at WBS. So, grab your friends and head over- you could also have a bite to eat at Benugo or Panda Mami!

Staying fit

Scheduling time to stay fit around a university timetable may be tricky, but there are various ways to stay fit in your spare time. The first, and most obvious, would be the Warwick Sports and Fitness centre we have on campus. With great facilities and a short walk from most on campus accommodations, it has a gym, swimming pool, squash courts and a climbing centre, alongside a number of other amazing areas included in the membership. When I’m not going to the gym, I enjoy taking walks on campus and connecting with nature. Warwick has many scenic spots to find and you may even come across some furry friends along the way! During my previous adventures, I have come across deer, bunnies and we cannot forget our beloved geese that are always roaming around.

Using time for hobbies

When I have more free time, I tend to spend a portion of it on music. As someone who loves to listen to numerous genres of music and singing, I fill my time recording covers with a microphone and editing it using recording software. It has taken time and effort to improve my skills using these tools, but I try to practice when I can, and I always gain a sense of pride once completing a project and sharing it with friends and family! My passion for music heavily coincides with the societies I partake in, such as K-pop Society. During my free time, I attend society events, meeting up with friends through various activities organised by the society such as karaoke; quiz nights and weekly k-drama watch parties!
