Why I chose to study BSc International Management at Warwick Business School

Undergraduate student, Anna, shares why she chose to pursue a BSc in International Management at WBS and how her study experience has been so far.

Hi everyone, my name is Anna and I come from France. I am currently in my second year as a BSc International Management student. Here is why I chose this particular course at Warwick Business School.

Year abroad

My first reason is the integrated year abroad. When I began my university applications, one of my main expectations was a year away as part of my course. With an international career in mind, it was a dimension I wanted to incorporate into my degree. It is definitely the most exciting part of this course, and I cannot wait to begin this journey in a few months!
During this course, students have the opportunity to spend a full year studying in one or two different destinations, go on a work placement, or combine both work and study.

I chose to spend a year studying, as my primary aim is to discover new cultures and develop my language skills during my year away. Another benefit of a study placement that I find students rarely talk about is the opportunity to choose modules outside of the business faculty. While subject to conditions, modules can range from digital photography to data analytics or even infectious diseases!

Class sizes and course tailoring

With my coursemates, we like to joke how our course is slicker—more exclusive if you want—than our BSc Management fellows, even though we share the same classes! Our particularities are, in essence, our smaller number—roughly 70 students per cohort—and our privilege, as I like to call it, of getting first pick for year abroad placements.

Having very little idea of the career I wanted to pursue, I have always liked to keep my options open and explore pathways. This brings me to the second reason: the course tailoring. The BSc International Management offers students the opportunity to select modules for year 2, allowing you to tailor the course to your preferences. With a wide variety of modules to choose from, you can narrow the focus of your study to a specific pathway or keep it broad.

After exploring foundational topics such as macroeconomics, business analytics and marketing in my first year, I have unexpectedly grown fond of data analytics, leading to my pick of related modules in my second year, such as programming and financial econometrics.

Pathway opportunities Building with Warwick Uni poster

Finally, what ultimately directed my choice toward this course are the pathway opportunities. While most bachelor programs offer a general course on management, the BSc International Management at WBS enables students to specialise in a pathway throughout their course, such as finance, marketing or digital business. I have found that this can add real value to your degree, especially for students aiming to start their careers after graduating.

Reflecting on my journey so far, as a BSc International Management student, I couldn't recommend this course enough. It has enabled my learning and sparked my interest in topics and skills I did not think I could master before (believe me when I say Excel was not my friend). No matter what your interests are, there is something for you in this course!
