This presentation is designed to foster dialog with those attending. In it, I will summarize certain current events in the US that pose questions about what "impact" may involve in practice, especially in terms of communication and its interpretation, emotions (positive and negative), and relationships (positive and negative). In tandem with these and some very specific reflections on 2021 Impact statement summaries from WBS, I will discuss some current means of translating scholarly research for practitioners, academic-practitioner collaboration, academic-practitioner relationships beyond research, and what I and others have posed as formal definitions of impact and their implications. Is impact (always/supposed to be) generative?
