The write idea: WBS students can enter articles on a range of issues facing business and society

WBS students are invited to enter a prestigious article writing competition with a cash prize.

The winning article, together with selected finalists, will also be published online and in print by Global Voice magazine and distributed to its readers worldwide.

The annual competition is run by the Council on Business and Society (CoBS), a global partnership of 11 business schools spanning six continents that aims to advance responsible and sustainable business to benefit society.

One winner will be selected from each partner school, including WBS. They will receive £500, a collection of CoBS goodies, and a certificate. Runners-up and finalists will also receive CoBS goodies and a certificate.

The competition is open to all students at Warwick Business School.

Articles must be between 1,200 and 2,000 words, must not have been published previously, and must be original work. They must also be based on one of the following questions:

  • What is the impact of trade wars on sustainable business practices?

  • Addressing biodiversity – how can companies help restore nature in all its forms?

  • How do humans interact with AI to ensure the common good?

  • What can politicians learn from CEOs, if anything? What can those newly elected to office learn from those leading the world’s most successful organisations?

  • Purpose-Driven Leadership: How does aligning personal and organisational purpose create meaningful impact in business?

  • What is the role of AI in sustainability?

  • Sustainability and trade – how do we develop trade policies and strategies that better address wider social and environmental issues?

  • The sustainability transformation dilemma: Challenges and strategies for established businesses.

  • How can companies and governments balance the benefits and costs of decarbonisation in the modern business landscape?

  • Beyond DEI: How can companies embed inclusion without the label?

Entrants must register by emailing Warren Manger at warren.manger@wbs.ac.uk from their business school or university email address before March 30.

They will then be sent a copy of the student article-writing guide.

Articles must be submitted by the deadline at 23.59pm on March 31, 2025. For more information, visit the Council on Business and Society website.
