The future is green: The Full-time MBA has helped graduates move into a career in the field of sustainability

Warwick Business School’s Full-time MBA has been ranked second in the UK and third in Europe for sustainability by business magazine Corporate Knights.

The Canadian sustainable economy publisher has announced its annual list of the most sustainable MBAs in the world and ranked WBS 11th globally.

And the 2024 Better World MBA Top 40 ranking has also produced a list of the best MBAs for sustainability among large business schools – those with more than 80 graduates a year - and named WBS third in the world.

Frederik Dahlmann, Associate Professor of Strategy and Sustainability, said: “This prestigious recognition highlights the School’s commitment to integrating sustainable development throughout its MBA programme.

“This ranking is a testament to our relentless focus on embedding ethical, social and environmental sustainability into every aspect of our curriculum and our desire to produce world-class research that will help all organisations move down this path.

“Our goal is to equip future business leaders with the knowledge and skills to drive sustainable change in their organisations and beyond.”

The Corporate Knights Better World MBA ranking examines the performances of 174 business schools around the world before picking the top 40.

It also assessed the impact of business schools’ alumni in driving sustainability, with WBS having a host of graduates working in the field, such as Gauri Malik, whose non-profit Sihori provides employment for women from rural India by using their traditional weaving skills to make furniture out of waste, and Max Frank, who used his Full-time MBA to pivot to a career as a sustainability consultant at Capgemini.

WBS has also created a Sustainability Professional Network to help alumni working in the field form valuable business connections.

The Full-time MBA programme offers a comprehensive approach to sustainability, incorporating it across all the required modules and offering electives like Mastering Conscious Capitalism and Social Innovation; Leading and Harnessing Diversity; and Managing Sustainable Energy Transitions.

MBA students can also take the Social and Environmental Sustainability Specialism, which gives them the tools and skills to help an organisation meet its net-zero targets and have a positive impact on society, or manage a sustainability function in a corporation.

Through the capstone module, which provides students with practical experience and insights, they also have the chance to participate in hands-on projects that address real-world sustainability challenges at partner companies like Barclays, Jaguar Land Rover and Microsoft.

Dawn Eubanks, Associate Professor of Behavioural Science and Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Course Director for the Full-time MBA, said: “Our MBA programme is designed to challenge students to think critically about the role of business in society. We emphasise the importance of ethical leadership and sustainable practices, preparing our graduates to make a positive impact on the world.

“Embedding sustainability across all the required modules allows students to address this complex, multi-dimensional subject from different angles.

“Warwick Business School is for the Change Makers, who are driven by a desire to change the world for the better and our teaching of sustainability really equips them to do this.”
