GREAT Scholarship

GREAT Scholarship: The award makes study in the UK financially easier for international students and connects them to a network of fellow scholars

Warwick Business School is partnering with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign to offer scholarships to students in Greece and Italy applying for its one-year postgraduate courses.

WBS is offering two scholarships of £30,000 each as part of the GREAT Scholarships 2025 programme which, as a partnership between the UK Government, the British Council and 71 UK universities, offers financial support to high achieving and high potential candidates overseas.

The finance is a huge help, according to Lefteris Katsikas, a GREAT scholar who is currently studying at WBS.

“I knew the cost of tuition and the cost of living would be high in the UK, so this grant has made my life and study here a lot easier,” said Lefteris, who learned about the scholarships last year at his local British Council office in Athens and is now on the MSc Business Analytics programme.

“But the finance is not the whole story. The award has also given me access to a network of GREAT scholars studying around the UK. I am part of a community that organises events where we all meet up and share experiences and ideas.”

The WBS scholarships – one to Greece, the other to Italy – are available across most of its Master’s programmes – from the MSc Finance to the MSc Marketing & Strategy – and is open to any student who has won a conditional or unconditional offer of a place on one of these courses for 2025.

Valeria Garza Cantu studied for the MSc Finance at WBS as a GREAT scholar in the 2022 intake.

“The rigorous academic programme, combined with the diverse and international community, expanded my perspectives and equipped me with skills that have been invaluable in my career,” Valeria said.

“The GREAT scholarship was a key enabler in making this experience possible, and it opened up numerous opportunities for me - both professionally and personally.

“Thanks to WBS, I’ve gained confidence, made lasting connections, and developed a broader understanding of the global finance landscape.

“The programme truly set the stage for new paths and exciting challenges, and I’m grateful for the doors it has helped me open.”

Where are the GREAT Scholarships available?

GREAT Scholarships offer students from 18 countries around the world the opportunity to study a wide range of taught postgraduate courses at UK universities. Over and above the two dedicated to WBS, the University of Warwick has been allocated eight more scholarships – to students from Nigeria, France, Turkey, India, China, Pakistan, and Spain.

The scholarships for Pakistan and Turkey (£15,000 each) are on offer across all disciplines and departments, with successful students responsible for the remaining tuition and living expenses.

Professor Michael Scott, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), said: “As a university committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and globally aware student body, Warwick is delighted to collaborate once again with the British Council on the Warwick-GREAT Scholarships 2025.

“It is integral to our international strategy that we establish partnerships to reduce the financial barriers for talented international students to pursue postgraduate education in the UK. These awards not only support academic excellence but also promote intercultural exchange, which enriches the learning environment for all students.

“The scholarships are particularly significant in attracting high-calibre students, enhancing the international diversity of our student cohort, and preparing them to contribute to global challenges.”

What a Master’s at WBS can offer

Back at WBS, Lefteris is enjoying the MSc Business Analytics course, which he started a few months ago.

“My undergraduate degree in Greece was in business administration so I wanted to do something more specific and technical for my Master’s,” he said.

“My WBS course has been exactly that, particularly the Analytics in Practice module that has strong applications in the real world.

“I feel that I am learning new things every week, and I’m making friends with students from all around the world at the same time.”
