MSc Business & Finance (2018 - 2019)

What first attracted you to WBS?

I was attracted to WBS and in particular the course because of the opportunity to choose between the traditional dissertation route specialising in a Finance related research topic for my future career or alternatively following the Business in Practice route. There is also great career support for Chinese students and students who wish to find employment in China. The WBS CareersPlus Team organise careers fairs for Chinese students both on campus and in Shanghai which really demonstrates the amount of effort that they put into supporting students.

What was the best thing about the programme?

For me, the best thing about the programme is the lectures which are always stimulating and challenging. You always feel that you are learning something new every day and the best part of the programme is that you can have intellectual talks with your classmates and lecturers if you require further clarification on something that you may be unsure of.

What inspired you most throughout your studies?

When I first came to WBS, I wanted the year to be transformative for me as an individual as well as an intellectual experience. I wanted to expand my knowledge, my beliefs to be challenged and my worldview to be moulded. I feel inspired by my classmates and the brilliant lecturers giving me the opportunity to engage in many kinds of intellectual exchanges.

What sort of support did you receive from the careers team? How has that helped you?

The WBS CareersPlus Team have supported me with tailoring my CV so that it now looks much more professional. I have also attended workshops based on mock interview and attending other informative sessions about networking, careers fairs and job applications. The careers fairs have been hugely beneficial in getting to know more about potential employers and gaining further insight into companies before making any job applications.

What are your tips for getting the most out of a masters for those starting in September?

If it is your first time in the UK or studying and living abroad, there will be lots of things that you may find difficult. I think it is important to do your research and always ask about something if you are unsure. My top tip for future students to make the most of their experience would be to take time away from their studies by joining societies, attending events and making full use of all the great facilities WBS has to offer, it is going to be a very busy year and hugely stimulating!
