I am originally from Moscow and studied in Moscow for my undergraduate degree in Economics. I was always certain that I wanted to study Finance to enhance my knowledge of Economics. Without a doubt, the University of Warwick is one of the top universities in the UK, and in particular the MSc Finance course at Warwick Business School is highly ranked within many of the major UK league tables, which is why I decided to apply.
WBS is differentiated by its enormous campus facilities, student opportunities and career prospects. It is the perfect place to combine both academic and professional experience through high-quality lectures and seminars, as well as having the opportunity to study a wide range of modules. WBS also provides first-class careers support by the dedicated CareersPlus team along with the MSc programme team who continuously provide support to MSc students.
The best thing about my course so far is the opportunity to take part in group projects. The structure of my course includes a lot of collaborative group projects which both enhances teamwork skills and enables students to learn from one another. I also really appreciate the wealth of knowledge of the academics at WBS, who are able to share first-hand experience and knowledge with passion and enthusiasm throughout every lecture and seminar.
My favourite module so far has been ‘Practice of Investment Management', where both theoretical and practical knowledge were combined. I was able to learn about the real financial world, which made the course very interesting and exciting. The special portfolio game, market meetings and trading proposals gave me the opportunity to experience the role of a portfolio manager and gave me an insight into the work they do.
I have been inspired throughout my studies so far by the people I am surrounded by. My classmates, professors, and guest speakers are the most valuable and irreplaceable resource at WBS. Their motivation inspires me to work hard and continue developing both personally and academically every single day. My best advice for future MSc students would be to make new contacts and establish personal and professional networks during your time at WBS which will be really beneficial to you in the future.
My top tip for prospective students joining WBS would be to challenge yourself and be open to all the new opportunities that will come your way. Studying MSc Finance at WBS has been a challenging experience but also one of the greatest experiences of my life.
