I’m a bit unusual in that after medical school, I discovered I had a lot of other interests besides medicine. These included finance, investments and policy, and instead of following a career in medicine, I decided to take the wild route in pursuing these interests and see where I landed myself.
I wanted to pursue an MBA that would enable me to study while working, and I chose Warwick Business School (WBS) due to its high rankings. I finally landed a spot on the Executive MBA, which was ideal for me as the flexibility of the programme allowed me to study while working. I was also able to access some funding that allowed me to cover the tuition more easily.
The cohort is a bunch of really smart individuals in various fields. The wider global community is also friendly, as well as willing to connect and help with advice and insights. I have enjoyed meeting people from different countries, cultures and professions. Mingling with these people has opened my eyes to more insights on the various sectors of business interests. I have also gained a lot of new knowledge I would not have had access to if I remained in my career. This has given me an edge to access several fields that I normally would not have access to.
Studying for an MBA can be really challenging physically, mentally and financially, but there are a lot of resources to aid the journey. The CareersPlus team have been very approachable and helpful with advice and encouragement.
After my studies, I hope to pursue a career in healthcare investments. I am using my dissertation to help solve problems with implementing artificial intelligence in healthcare and throughout the Executive MBA I hope to gain industry connections and knowledge to make the necessary career moves.
If you’re considering an MBA, I’d say go for it. The programme is challenging but great, and there is a robust store of educational resources to take advantage of. Be sure to take advantage of any financial resources available and do not be afraid to put your best foot forward in your application.
