Katy Rogers
Executive MBA (2015-2017)

Katy Rogers reflects on her transformational journey through the Executive MBA at Warwick Business School.

In 2015, I embarked on an Executive MBA at Warwick Business School (WBS) while working as a Senior Manager at Kohler Mira, the UK subsidiary of Kohler, the world’s second-largest bathroom manufacturer. My motivation? To accelerate my career progression, cultivate a global mindset, and enhance my ability to innovate and think strategically. The programme came highly recommended—our then-Managing Director had completed the Executive MBA at WBS and spoke passionately about its impact. I was ready for the challenge.

Immersive learning from day one

From the very first module, I knew this experience would be anything but conventional. What was supposed to be an induction session on academic writing and the library turned into an unforgettable lesson in problem-solving through performing arts! Jonathan Neelands took us to the drama studio, where we tackled business challenges creatively and playfully. This innovative approach instantly hooked me, setting the tone for the immersive and experiential learning that would define my MBA journey.

Standout modules that shaped my perspective

Several modules left a lasting impact, each offering a unique and engaging learning experience:

  • Global Branding in Dublin – An incredible week of deep learning, exploring the nuances of global brand strategy while immersing ourselves in the vibrant city of Dublin and its coastal towns. And yes, a trip to the Guinness factory was part of our educational experience!
  • Innovation & Creativity at The Shard – The only module I completed at this iconic London location. It was a powerhouse of content, collaboration, and inspiration. Here, I met Dimitrios, who would later become my Project & Dissertation (P&D) supervisor.
  • Leadership and the Art of Judgment – This module profoundly influenced my understanding of leadership. By drawing connections between leadership traits and literary characters from Shakespeare, Miller, and Sophocles, I gained invaluable insights into human connections, self-reflection and the concept of hubris; our decision-making, and the lasting impact of our actions as leaders.

Beyond the classroom: The power of Executive Coaching

For me, the Executive Coaching offered through WBS was truly life-changing. While the academic content equipped me with essential knowledge, coaching gave me the tools to demonstrate my abilities authentically. It played a pivotal role in my career progression—helping me navigate a rigorous interview process and securing a Business Director role within my organisation just after submitting my P&D. By the time I graduated, I was already in my new leadership position, overseeing a global business with European subsidiaries and international distribution partners.

Applying the MBA in the real world

The knowledge and frameworks I gained during the MBA were immediately applicable. The Global Branding insights helped me navigate cross-cultural business dynamics. The Strategic Advantage and Financial & Accounting Management modules provided essential tools to lead and execute financial and strategic plans effectively. I continued leveraging executive coaching, using it to build confidence, gain new perspectives, manage organisational change, and enhance both my leadership skills and those of my team.

A new chapter: Breathe In Coaching & Consulting Ltd

The impact of my MBA journey didn’t stop there. The confidence and skills I developed ultimately led me to establish my own business—“Breathe In Coaching & Consulting Ltd.” Today, I work with executives, leaders, and businesses, offering Executive Coaching, Strategic Consulting, and Facilitation. Even in setting up my own company, I applied lessons from the Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation module, proving just how practical and powerful this learning experience was.

A truly transformational experience

For me, the Executive MBA at WBS was more than just an academic programme—it was transformational. The rigorous content, immersive learning environment, and invaluable additional offerings shaped me into the leader I am today. It gave me the tools, confidence, and mindset to not only advance my career but also empower others on their leadership journeys.

Would I do it all over again? Absolutely.
